Dietary Ketosis-Measure Guide with Keto Strips


Some people will depend on keto strip to see if they are in dietary ketosis. I will often use keto strips as a guide to confirm I am expelling excess ketones and my body is in the fat burning mode, also so many other signs with out using the strips to tell you are in dietary ketosis which most can tell by keto breath, thirst(I like to add electrolytes and Apple Cider Vinegar(raw ACV) in my water), lack of hunger, and more energy.

Being in Dietary Ketosis means that your body's primary source of energy is fat (in the form of ketones). When you consume adequate protein as well, there's no need for the body to break down its muscle tissue. Ketosis also tends to accelerate fat loss --- once the liver converts fat to ketones, it can't be converted back to fat, and so is excreted. 

Ketones will spill into the urine ONLY when there is more in the blood than is being used as fuel by the body at that particular moment.

You may have exercised or worked a few hours previously, so your muscles would have used up the ketones as fuel, thus there will be no excess. You may have had a lot of liquids to drink, so the urine is more diluted. Perhaps the strips are not fresh, or the lid was not on tight and some moisture from the atmosphere got in.


Some low carbers never show above trace or negative even ..yet, they burn fat and lose weight just fine. If you're losing weight and your clothes are getting looser, you're feeling well and not hungry all the time .. then you are successfully in ketosis. The main thing is don't get hung up buying keto strips, they are just a guide, nothing more, but in the beginning, for some, like me, it motivates me to stay clean eating and focus on the goals, which is good health and optimal weight loss and maintenance.

Milk Thistle(Silymarin) enhances liver function through its ability to prevent toxin-induced damage and by stimulating the growth of new liver cells to replace old, damaged cells, without stimulating malignant tissue (tumors). Well, in case you didn't know it, fluoride is highly toxic. In fact, before fluoride was deemed a "cavity fighter," it was used as insecticide and rat poison. It's true. Even more surprising is that when it comes to dental hygiene, fluoride actually does more harm than good.

As I roll into 2015, I noticed that the staple foods/miracle oils have been missing from my arsenal for a natural combat in weight loss, hair loss, digestive aid, skin toner, wart remover, and so much more!

 I looked hard in my refrigerate and notice I was out of Raw Apple Cider Vinegar!! I though to myself, when was the last time I used and, which should of been daily, but I slacked over the holidays with my daily dose which is 2 tables spoons in a larger glass of ice cold filter water.  I them remembered that I use the last of it on a my face...I dilute apple cider vinegar with filter water and use it as a toner on my face.
So, after noticing that I did not have the apple cider vinegar, I went out to purchase a new bottle...ahh..the look on my face at the local grocery store could scare most people away..I want to share with everyone in the store the many wonderful health benefits of Raw Apple Cider Vinegar, but I didn't.




 I then went on to the coconut oil isle and read a few of the brands and decided not to purchase more coconut oil until the last jar was almost gone...I prefer to purchase on line with Tropical Traditions, I do love this brand for my cats, but also local brands such as Jarrow for my kitties.  Then I check for how much Diatomatous Earth(Food Grade) I had left..and yes, plenty left since is use around the house as a bug defender and also as a drink supplement...now I was set, all 4 of my arsenal for my 2015 attack on my fat storage, growth of my hair, and internal digestive health and now learning more about Raw Apple Cider Vinegar in the prevention of cancer cells...so, let the research continue..I have noticed that along with adding lime and lemon to my daily water...my potassium level is where it's suppose to be and no more leg cramps, especially when you don't eat enough potassium in your diet when low carbing, this is a good natural way to replenish your potassium, a drink everyday of warm lime water in the morning, or evenings works for me too.
So,here we go again with my braggin so much about ACV, the raw vinegar with the Mother...remember to shake up the bottle till its is a murky brown/gold color and enjoy this wonder tonic, drink through a straw if you prefer..I brush my teeth daily twice with coconut oil and baking soda, and no enamel had come off my 56 year old teeth from drink apple cider vinegar diluted in water, even hot/warm water will get your tummy feeling all  better since it helps with digestion and acid and all that good stuff...

HOW I NATURALLY WHITEN MY TEETH WITH COCONUT OIL

Here is a playlist of coconut oil benefits, some videos I made, some videos other people made. I love to take a few hours and watch the playlist..it really helps remind me how much healthier I do feel when I ingest coconut oil to my foods..unrefined virgin coconut oil....even my cats, especially the older cat will lick his lips when I ask him if he wants some coconut oil, it's to funny to see him do that, next time I need to get the camera ready to catch his reaction when I mention coconut oil.

So many times I want to reach through the computer scream and grab that toothpaste or the cosmetic wipe out of your hand!! Coconut Oil can substitute most any product out there.  I am so happy to continue to update my toothpaste/teeth whitening experiment over the years. Never did I believe I could get my teeth brighter and whiter with using baking soda and coconut oil....and of course oil pulling for removal of toxin and strong healthy gums and bones. At my age, 56, teeth will naturally yellow over the years, so I knew I would never have that artificial illuminating light bulb teeth color. Here is my latest update on coconut oil/baking soda toothpaste to help whiten my teeth and also have given up fluoride toothpaste, since I don't want any more chemicals in my body.

I am Iron-Woman

Ever see that commercial  for Geritol, you know, the one with the old folks, the silver hair, the slow dance, the no energy people and next thing you know, they pop a special formulated vitamin, and wow...they are up and at it with more energy then ever....well, because Geritol is load with Iron.  Not everyone who is tired, middle age, post menopause who are tired and low energy are low on Iron.



 I found out recently that my iron level are elevated and that more testing will be done to verify if I have Hemochromatosis. I am pretty sure I do, only because about 12 years ago, a doctor who I was seeing to prepare me for a hysterectomy told me I have more blood then most women, I am guessing I have more red blood cells then the norm, but he really left it at that. I have always had problems with heavy bleeding over my lovely, wonderful, pleasant years of my monthly aunt flo visit...she always came with enough luggage, (if you know what I mean). This probably is why I never had a problem with too much iron in my blood, because over those several long, painful, yucky year, I've seem to eliminate enough blood to even out my iron levels, and I was never anemic, nor tired.

 Right now, I am to limit my intake on red meat, no vitamins with iron, no cooking in iron skillets, and check back in a month for follow up, I have not been told from previous blood tests that my iron levels were elevated, so now I will hope that I can get the levels down naturally, and start to see if my arthritis can get under control, and more energy...high iron can cause a lot of health problems, especially with the heart and cancers..because the red blood cells are rich, and more inviting for infections and inflammation. Iron is also stored in the liver, spleen and bone marrow, so it is also important to have a healthy liver, I can continue to take milk thistle, and liver cleanse with diatomaceous earth drinks and apple cider vinegar tonic drinks.

Grass-Fed Cheese Benefits

So for the past few weeks I have had the delighted excitement of of trying different flavors of Kerrygold cheeses. I found them on sale and always wanted to try the grass fed cheeses.

I had researched for several month on the health benefits of grass fed meats, and now cheese and butter will always be from grass fed cows.
When you visit your local super market, take a look at what American Cheese is made out of. Of course it is such a flavorful cheese which brings back childhood memories. I've always love Velveeta cheese, and not to say I will never eat it again, but I know that the less chemicals I consume in my foods, the better my health I will have

Imported European cheeses are very pricey, usually find them in the gourmet section. Once I took one bite of this cheese, I felt like it was sweet heaven. I eat cheese as a side, I eat it as a snack and I eat it with my eggs in the morning. The sales are over for now, but at a reasonable price, I will purchase again. I can wait till I can afford the good healthy cheese, but I won't give in to process foods, just to save money. I rather pay the price at the checkout stand, then the price of a new health condition that comes from eating too much chemicals in my foods.

Think it over next time you reach for that cheddar cheese, do your really want to eat more hormone and antibiotics...I am so happy the chicken I eat is hormone free, antibiotic free, and the eggs I purchase are the Happy Eggs

Coconut Oil Fat Fast and Getting Into Dietary Ketosis

So this week I have decided with the celebration of spring just around the corner, which here in Southern California it's more like summer, I decided to pull out the big stuff and start with the Fat Fasting getting my body into dietary ketosis to speed up my metabolism since it's been awhile that I really up the coconut oil and oil pulling.
I believe that the ketogenic diet works for someone like me. I am not a mobile as I use to be, I have had some flare ups recently with my psoriactic arthritis and also recently changed new doctors who are trying new medications on me, which I really won't care to share at this moment because these drugs may be what I need to set my immune system back to normal and not over reacting.

 I plan to document more about my auto immune disease soon, but for now, I want to get that extra weight off from not being able to walk and move around, and get the energy I need to mentally and physically become active again. I have been through a lot of personal changes in the past year and let those changes benefit me into this year as I gain more knowledge about my disease and more knowledge of how I can live a decent life with pain management,clean eating and detoxing my body of gunk my liver loves to store if I don't do something about it now.

Marks says "Choose your own timing and length of window based on your schedule and preferences. If you can’t decide, you can consider condensing your eating between the hours of eleven and 5:00 p.m." I chose to eat between 12pm and 6pm and will oil pull 3 times a day, morning, noon and before bed, empty stomach, and eat 3 tablespoons of coconut oil within that time frame of 12pm-6pm, I usually cook with the oil too, so it won't be hard at all to consume 3 tablespoons of virgin coconut oil at all. I also plan to follow a bit of the Atkins Fat Fast too.


Now, one thing people don't really know about is adding Raw apple cider vinegar to your foods with the fat fast. I usually drink one glass of apple cider vinegar, 2 tablespoons AVC with 8 ounces ice water, drink slowly or normally through a straw...but this time I will drink this 3 drinks a day through out the day and evening. That eating is for foods only between 12pm-6pm, but I will be drinking plenty water to flush my liver and help digestion and staying full through out the 18 hours of fasting.
 I believe 18 hours is a good enough fast time for me and usually can last 6 weeks if I stay focused.


The main reason I am doing this is of course to start the fat loss process, but also to stay connected with my mental wellness to over come any difficulties I endure and to know that through out my life, things happen that I have little control over outside of me, but when I can control the strength and focus of positive thoughts, anything is possible, especially living with chronic pain, and still being able to enjoy life and all that is offered to me. What I eat will depend on my ability to stay focused and not that I have temptations, of course I do, but to know that being in a ketogenic state mean my body knows what to do with the extra ketones I don't need.
I use my fat cells to burn for energy, have enough sugar to stable me, and still be able to plan meals that are not boring to me.

Living Grain Free - Coconut and Almond Flour Biscuits

I've been trying to find a grain free biscuit recipe that has all the goodness of fiber, protein and low carb. I wanted to find away to use coconut flour and almond flour and coconut oil and came up with this recipe that I think is a winner in my family. I don't miss grain much anymore, but if I did decide to eat the bun on my burger, I would usually end up with joint pain and feeling of dry skin and bloating. Giving up grains was not that hard to do since I know it does effect my health and for some reason having an auto immune inflammatory disease is a great reminder to stay away from wheat or other grains, thanks to Wheat Belly written by William Davis MD, I have learned so much and am still learning about all the more reason why a change in what we eat can make a huge difference in how we feel. Here is my recipes that can be modified in many ways.


MY CATS EAT GRAIN-FREE CAT FOOD TOO!! I've gone grain free, gluten free and experimenting with many recipes using almond flour and coconut flour The wheat and grains today are so over processed and causes so many flareup with my arthritis, and finding an alternative nut flour is the most amazing feeling of happiness..I don't worry about fats, too many calories, or heating almond flour..I do not eat biscuits often, but its is a treat on a Sunday morning, eating a grain-free biscuit, drinking my coffee with coconut oil and heavy whipping cream, poached egg and bacon. Blanched Almond Flour is the best almond meal you can find on the market. Made from skinless California almonds with no additives or fillers, this nut flour is milled to a very fine consistency that produces amazing results especially for low carb baking! What's the difference between Blanched Almond Flour and Natural Almond Flour? Natural Almond flour has the skins on it..that's all...more nuttier flavor. I use the blanched almond flour in this recipe. Shelf-Life: Stores for 6 to 9 months. Almond flour may also be refrigerated or frozen for storage purposes. But if you are going to do alot of baking with almond flour, in my opinion it is best to make fresh batches of biscuits each time 

I use 6 egg white to make the biscuit fluffy and they will be dense, but the texture is awesome to spread butter, or cheese or even sugar free jam..is it easy to make your own fresh, no artificial sweeten jams
RECIPE:
6 eggs whites -hormone free, cage free hen eggs are the best!!!
 3/4 cup blanched almond flour
 1/4 cup coconut flour
 1 teaspoon baking powder
 1/4 teaspoon salt(sea salt)
 1 tablespoons coconut oil, make sure it is hard, not melted
 3 tablespoon of cold butter cut in cubes
***chill the mixture in the frig for about 15 minutes
 Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
 Line a baking sheet with parchment paper
 In a medium bowl whisk egg whites until they form peaks.
 Fold the egg whites into the chilled flour mixture
mix gently well drop the biscuit dough onto the parchment paper, flatten 3/4 inch with fork or by hand

*One trick I found is to make sure the butter and coconut oil stay cold, and work fast to get the dough incorporated
Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown, brush with coconut oil to get a crispy crust.

For a sweet treat, add cinnamon and sprinkle stevia or truvia
The almond flour is rich in protein, coconut flour is high in dietary fiber and protein, and is gluten-free. It has more fiber than gluten-based grains

Making a Volcano to clean the drain



DO NOT USE ANY CHEMICAL DRAIN CLEANER AFTER THIS!!! EASY way to clean your drains and keep them clog free..I use 2 tablespoon baking soda down a dry drain and about 5 tablespoons WHITE vinegar weekly to keep my drains clean.remember to trap the volcano inside the drain, use a rag to stuff down the drain if you have to keep it from coming up.... .use 1/2 cup baking soda and 1/2 cup WHITE vinegar 5% for clogged drains. you may need to repeat overnight..don't use commercial drain cleaners!!!! Creating New Fat Cells for Toxin Storage

You know what? I spend more time researching on the internet and reading to all hours of the night about how little I knew about the human body and how little was told to me about the truth.

How come, please hear me out, how come cancer is still around, how come there are more children born with ADD and ADHD and how come heart disease, high cholesterol and high blood pressure are so common in younger adults...what happen? Why are there more unhealthy people then there are healthy people, why is it that you have to go out of your way to take control of your own health, and not trust everything you hear.
..I am sorry, but if I had not stayed up late at night, and watch so many controversial documentaries, I would of never known about how wheat, and refined carbohydrates where some of the many toxins I have been ingesting in the past 20 years when the boom of the 1980's preservatives hit the market, how going sugar free and replacing that cane sugar with chemicals manufactured in a lab but was approved by our governments, and how good food tasted when you just add a little MSG to it, gosh, and let's not forget how great it was to suffer from those headaches, because you were eating low calorie, low fat , because fat was the cause of obesity in the 80's....well....I didn't have to give up much fat, because I never "craved" fat, I craved that bread, that wheat belly bread, and thinking wheat was the safe and better bread to eat....Have you ever experienced headaches or other general ill feelings when you've gone on a diet? This is typical and is a result of previously stored toxins being released into the body again as you burn or release fat. You are, in essence, unsealing the toxins and flushing them out. This is one of the primary reasons it’s critical to drink plenty of water when you’re losing fat. 

I try my best to minimize foods that contain toxins such as preservatives, pesticides, antibiotics, and heavy metals (such as the mercury increasingly found in some species of fish). Your body will protect itself by holding onto fat to lock the toxins away. I also am very much aware of acetaminophen and prescription medications I take for my psoriatic arthritis due to chronic joint pain at time, but being able to eliminate pesticides and preservatives have made a big difference in how I feel and my ability to focus on my weight loss journey and fitness health.

Much of our produce today has been sprayed with pesticides to reduce crop loss to bugs and other chemicals have been proven to leak into crops through water drainage that gets into the soil during the growing season. There can also be toxins introduced to food sources while they are being harvested, sorted and packed for shipment to your grocery store.

Of course, you are already aware that many water sources contain toxins today as well. Even bottled water may include toxins! Many preservatives used to extend the shelf life of packaged foods are toxic to the body in large quantities. This is one of many good reason to eliminate process foods from your diet, trying to eat clean and shop on the outer sides of the grocery store.

Since toxins are not natural particles or food sources that the body is familiar with, your organs can quickly become overwhelmed by all of these toxins. When this happens, you will start to store much of the toxic matter in your fat cells. In fact, you may actually create completely new fat cells just for the storage of these toxins.

So, my theory about why I am holding on to fat is more about my body having toxins and this is a reaction, to protect my organs, silly thing, but being fat is a reaction our body has created, more like armor. YOU FOOLED ME-PROOF MASHED CAULIFLOWER RECIPE

Ok, once you become a Low Carber, you search for new ideas to make your comfort food taste just like Grandma did, back in the day. I have tried my best to "like" cauliflower, it all stems back to when I was a young girl "forced" to eat vegetables that the 'grown-ups" liked. Cauliflower was on top of the list of foods that I will never eat when I grow up and move away from my parents!! Well, I NEVER fed my own family cauliflower, because I was forced as a kid, and now as an adult  I "don't" have to eat those icky vegetables my parents forced on me...ha ha...that was until I became a Low Carber!! Once I change my lifestyle in 2009, I was introduced to so many fantastic LOW CARB recipes, I had to try it out MASHED CAULIFLOWER  for myself and wow, did I ever LOVE this, and experimented with my own recipe and came up with a pretty good fooled proof mashed cauliflower recipe.
I will slowly let my adult kids decide that giving up the mashed potato/baked potato can be very liberating because a fool- proof mashed cauliflower recipe could go the distance especially if you know the benefits of giving up starches in your diet. Living the low carb lifestyle gives you so many ideas easily substitute that lump of sugar white potato for that creamy cheesy cauliflower, just add some herbs and spices and anything is possible!

Here is a video I made in 2009, introducing my Whipped Cauliflower, letting her think it was mashed potatoes. Oh boy did I get B*atched at..all is good now, she forgave, but doesn't forget.!

Now, this recipes is not exact, you can tweak it to your liking, I am not one to follow exact recipes, but I sure wish I would of known about this before I became a lifestyle low carber. Now my grandson who is 2 will be trying this out for the first time soon, this makes a great holiday dish, and YES, I will tell in advance that it is NOT potato..but sort of would like to fool those people who are picky and not a cauliflower eater like I once was.

Whipped Cauliflower Bacon Ranch Souffle

Pressure cook the cauliflower, or steam/boil till very tender
drain off the water, but leave a bit for flavoring
there are no exact amounts to this recipes
add 1/ 2 stick real butter
add 2 table spoon ranch dressing
add 2 table spoon full fat sour cream
add 2 table spoons full fat cream cheese
add *real) bacon bits
add 1/4 /cup whipping cream



add seasons
1 big dash( you decide)
garlic powder
onion powder
parsley flakes
sea salt- to taste
cayenne pepper
black pepper

whip all together
add to buttered baking dish

top off with sharp cheddar cheese, chives and paprika

bake in 350 degree oven till golden crispy brown on top

serve with your favorite meat, favorite green vegetables and or toss salad

My Sunday dinner doesn't need Mr Potato head at the table-being a low carber doesn't mean I am a meat and cheese eater only...I must continue to cook my meals, introduce new recipes to keep your carbs under control from that carb monster.
